Getting to Labuan

Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia fly daily from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Miri and Kuching to Labuan. Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Lumpur are international gateways, which connect labuan to major cities around the world. High speed air-condition ferries ply daily from Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam. There are also vechcle ferries, which operate daily between Labuan and menumbok, on the mainland of sabah.

 

Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
30 Min by Air, 2 1/2 Hours by Ferry
Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah is only 30 minutes away by air. The more leisurely air-conditioned ferry takes about 2 1/2 hours. Snorkel around the five islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, skin dive at world-renowned Sipadan Island, visit indigenous people at Tuaran or Kota Belud Tamu, visit Rungus or Murut longhouses, encounter orang utan at Sepilok, green turtles at Selingan island, proboscis monkeys at Sukau, trek up to Mt. It's easy to visit Sarawak, the land of the hornbill. Journey to Miri to visit the Niah and Mulu caves. The Niah cave is famous for its swiftlet nests, which are collected by climbing up very long bamboo poles to the ceiling some 200 feet high. The nests are used for birds' nest soup. Mulu Cave, which is a large and impressive cave system is a must-see. Kuching, capital of Sarawak, famous for the Sarawak Museum, Fort Margherita - residence of th - White Rajahs, Sarawak Cultural Village and Iban longhouses at Skrang River.

Layang Layang Island

Layang Layang Island or Swallow Reefs is an oceanic atoll, which lies about 300 Km north of Labuan near the famous Spratly group of islands. It is a world-class diving and fishing paradise. Some rate it as "big fish and wall diving Mecca of Southeast Asia" It is coral walls plunge a staggering 2,000 metres down to the flooe of the South China Sea. Its warm waters are crystal clear with visible averaging 60 metres, giving divers a clear view of the amazing uderwater world. Large shoals of pelagics, including massive numbers of barracuda, jacks and the hammerhead shark frequent these waters.
